it costs nothing but produces much,
it enriches those who receive it
without impoverishing those who give it,
it happens in a flash yet the memory of it
can last forever,
none are so rich they can get along without it
none are so poor they are not richer for its benefits
it brings ease to the fearful
fosters goodwill amongst strangers
and is the countersign of friends,
yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it is something that has no earthly good at all
until it is given away,
and no one needs one as much as those who have
none left to give!
